Question about objects.?

This question is related to direct and indirect objects. I am quite confused about identifying the verbs that take direct or indirect objects or both. The objects are the nouns which follow the verb. For instance: “Jill gave advice to me.” The objects are “advice” and “me”. I was looking at the verb "say". In the dictionary([link]), it is given that it takes object. For instance, “Is anybody there?” he said. (what is the object in this sentence)? Is the part in the double quote object(DO)? By the same token, If anyone says me or to me, "Don't give up, you are doing well" , then I feel very happy. In this sentence, say, which takes, but does it take DO or IO or both? Please look at this sentence. "You will be reimbursed for any loss or damage caused by our company." What is the difference between the meanings of "loss" and "damage". I think they are the same. I doubt "loss" is a word to describe loss of property like a house and money and "damage" is for telling physical loss like disease, Couldn't you explain it to me a little bit? Thank you in advance.

"The most popular tourist attraction is sea lions. " "Sea lions are the most popular tourist attraction." Are these sentences correct? It seems like the subject changes by just rearranging the sentence, and so the verb changes. But that doesn't seem correct. I'm confused about the subject-verb agreement in my examples.
