The following sentences are all found in the dictionaries. ex. I will resume the story of the book where I left off . I took up the story where I left off . I can continue where I left off All the sentences are complete in terms of form and meaning without where-phrase. So it seems where-phrases function as an adverbial element. But I've never seen this kind of adverbials. The examples all above look odd to my eye and with inserting 'from' they seem far better. I can continue from where I left off . What do you think about my thinking?
