Take A Dive For Fight?

In boxing, 'take a dive' means losing on purpose. From time to time, people would say: "The boxer took a dive for that fight." I'm curous about ' for ', which seems to suggest that 'the fight' was the reason for 'taking a dive'. Should it be corrected to: "The boxer took a dive in that fight."
