What does this sentence mean?

"The energy of space (or anything else) cannot be infinite. " When I read the above sentence, I think it is saying: 'the energy of anything cannot be infinite' (nothing can have infinite energy) Somebody else is interpreting it as: 'The energy of space cannot be infinite. Neither can anything else' (nothing can be infinite) Does this sentence rule out anything being infinite, or is it specifically referring to energy?
