Question about usage of this prepositional phrase?

"Rhetoric has long been a supporting thread in the social fabric of human civilization, since the days of Aristotle." Is this a correct and/or "good/acceptable" use of a prepositional phrase, ", since the days of Aristotle."? Is there a better way to incorporate this detail? Or is this actually an absolute phrase even though it is not the usual noun and participle pattern? Thanks so much! Jason
